Gym cables should be replaced when they show signs of wear and tear, such as:

  • Cracked coating: The nylon coating around the cable may crack or break, exposing the inner wires

  • Kinking: The cable may kink or balloon at certain points

  • Fraying: The cable may fray due to overuse or incorrect handling

  • Rusting: Moisture can cause rust to form on the cable, which can weaken it

  • Snapping: Worn cables can snap suddenly during use, which can be dangerous

To prevent cable damage, you can:

  • Inspect regularly: Check the cables daily for signs of wear and tear

  • Lubricate: Use silicone oil to lubricate the cable pulleys every 3–6 months

  • Adjust tension: Check the tension of the cables and adjust as needed

  • Tighten fasteners: Ensure that nuts, bolts, and fasteners are tight

If one cable is damaged, it's recommended to replace the other cables, especially if the gym is over 5 or 6 years old. You can order replacement cables from a number of sources.
